Articles of Faith
1. The Bible: We believe that the Scriptures, as set forth in the
original writings of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, are
God-breathed and therefore free from error. They constitute the only infallible
authority in all matters of faith, practice and morality.
2. The Triune God: We believe that there is only one living and true God,
who is the creator, sustainer and supreme ruler of all things. God is spirit,
infinite in being and in all perfection. The one God exists eternally in three
persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. All three persons have the
same nature, attributes, and perfection, although each executes distinct but
harmonious operations in the work of creation and redemption.
3. Mankind and Sin: We believe that mankind was created in the image of
God, but through disobedience to Him, sin entered the world. The result being
that outside of Christ all people are sinners by nature and practice. They are
spiritually dead, corrupted in every part of their being: guilty and condemned
to total and permanent exclusion from the presence of God in a place called
Hell.
4. Jesus Christ: We believe that the eternally pre-existent Son became
flesh without human father, by being conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of
the virgin Mary. In the Lord Jesus Christ, divine and human natures were united
in one person, both being whole, perfect and distinct. To provide salvation, He
lived a sinless life and died on the cross as the sinner substitute, shedding
His blood for the remission of sins. On the third day He rose from the dead in
the body which had been laid in the tomb. He ascended to the right hand of the
Father, where He performs the ministry of intercession for believers.
5. The Holy Spirit: We believe that the work of the Holy Spirit is
necessary to make the death and resurrection of Christ effective in the life of
the individual sinner. It enables him to turn from sin, put his faith in the
Lord Jesus Christ and thereby receive the gift of eternal life. All who are born
again have the Holy Spirit living within them. God desires that Christians
always be filled with the Spirit, living and witnessing in His power.
6. Sanctification of the Saved: We believe that true believers, as to
their standing, are perfected forever in and through Christ's sacrificial death.
As to their state, such believers ought to progress toward Christ-likeness,
though the continuing work of the Holy Spirit. By God's power, they are
increasingly freed from the presence of sin and enabled to live a life of
holiness. For the believer, this God-enabled process of sanctification involves
willing separation from that which is evil, and dedication to that which is
godly and good. Sanctification is facilitated by the continual use of
God-appointed means -- especially the Word of God, Christian Fellowship,
witnessing and self-discipline.
7. Things to Come: We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming again,
personally, visibly and with great glory. He will take His Church unto Himself
and fully establish His Kingdom of righteousness and peace. Following the
resurrection of the dead, the righteous will enter into full possession of
eternal blessedness in the presence of God and the wicked will be condemned to
eternal punishment.
8. The Church: We believe that Christ's Church to be composed of all who,
through faith, are truly united by the Holy Spirit to the Lord Jesus Christ. As
a visible expression of Christ's Church, biblically, a local church is likewise
composed of members who are born again, trusting only in the Lord Jesus Christ
and his atoning death for salvation. In New Testament times these believers were
baptized and voluntarily gathered together to maintain the public worship of
God, to observe the ordinances of the New Testament and to promote the Kingdom
of our Lord.
